What if the little things don't work...

FH rang me up the other day after I sent him a link for some water bottle labels by Skype. He asked me a very important question which was pretty much along the lines of what if all the things you are doing for the wedding don't work. And will you get stressed about the little things and will it ruin your day....

I'd actually been thinking about this recently myself, am I doing to much. Am I making too many little knick naks for the wedding. Are people actually going to notice all the time and effort that I've spent on making these things...

I reassured FH saying that it won't bother me if things don't work out and I'm going to give our ceremony and reception decorator the line of ... IF IT DOESN'T FIT, DON'T USE IT!  I know I've put my heart and soul and heaps of my time creating, researching and finding the perfect things for our wedding. And that it seems to be all that I'm doing mostly these days apart from working, having a social life and trying to get to the gym and get myself nice and fit and svelte for when FH comes home.

I've also found that it has been a fantastic distraction to keep me motivated and occupied and trying not to be lonely while FH is away. It has helped bring out my creative side and makes me happy when I'm doing something, especially when seeing the great results, blogging about it and getting some fantastic feedback from my blog followers.

I'd like to hope that if the little things don't work, I won't be upset. I'm pretty sure I won't be upset as I'll be too busy enjoying the day, spending the first day of the beginning of my new life with FH and seeing all our friends and family again, and getting our groove on, on the dance floor.

How do you guys feel about this... if your little things don't work out, if your decorator doesn't include things that you wanted included.. what would you do or feel?

  1. I think half the enjoyment in planning your own wedding is the actual planning part. On the day everything is going to appear perfect regardless.

I saw ignore his fears and continue to enjoy yourself in the lead up (beats being stressed) and if some things don't work out, so what!

As for people noticing the effort you have put in, that doesn't matter either, this is your day and it's all about you!

  2. Usually other brides to bes or newly weds will notice the little things. I think the most important thing is to remember that you will only look back at the people and remember the wash of emotions afterwards when you look back at your wedding photos.

So, focus on just those two on the day and you will be fine. In the meantime, enjoy all the wedding planning guilt free because this is the only time you get to!

  4. I'm only starting my wedding planning, so I am worried about the same thing, letting the little things get to me. I hope that on my wedding day that if things go wrong, then I won't care, I am there to marry my best friend, and to be honest I would think not many people would notice the little things, and just remember the fact that they are there to see you guys married.

ps -I nominated your blog for a Cute Blog Award.. (details on my blog!)

    1. Hey Jessigirl - thanks for the nomination. I've had one of these before so I'm going to say thank you very much instead for the honour of the nomination. Hope you don't mind.

Yeah I agree with I'm there to marry my best friend. FH was just worried that's all but I've totally assured him that I won't worry about all the little things :)

  5. Speaking as a wedding stylist, we'll always include the things you want - even if we don't like them! It's not our wedding! A good stylist should be able to incorporate it all and make it look great anyway.

That said, if you're really concerned it 'wont work' ask them for honest advice if you're prepared not to be offended.

My one tip: if you have put time and effort into things that you really love, then make sure you get your photographer to take photos of it. It might not be that every guest notices it on the day, it may be that you forget to notice on the day.. but it is the little details that really make your wedding you, and I can guarantee you will enjoy looking back on them afterwards!

I promise nothing as minor as DIY will 'ruin' your day either!! :)

    Good luck! x

    1. Thanks pod and pea. Its nice to get advice from the experts. I will get the photographer to photograph all the little things i've put my heart and soul into.. haha, it will be a nice touch.

Yeah i will talk to my wedding stylist and see what she thinks about all the things i've created. I've sent her mood boards along the way so she sort of knows what's going on. We're still just over 6mths by a smidgen so I'll talk to her closer to the time more in depth.

Thanks for your advice. Its really appreciated. And p.s I love reading your blog for ideas xx
