Cake Accessories ... Frames for the cake boxes

Seeing as we are having a really yummy cake at our wedding we want others to enjoy it as well. I made a heap of cake boxes ages ago so our guests can take a bit of cake home with them in a box instead of the typical cake bag which gets squashed so easily. At least if the box gets squashed then it will sort of protect the cake a wee bit.

I've asked our planner Jenny, who is going to do Day of Coordination for the whole day whether she would mind putting the cake in the boxes, and she didn't mind at all. Our venue wouldn't do this as it's a bit fiddly, so my plan was to put the boxes on the table and they could put their own slice of cake in the box. But it works out even better this way now as they are pre-packaged. So Jenny is going to bring them out once the cake has been cut, and its cake, chocolate and coffee time, which will happen at about 9pm. And place them on the tables with a frame which I have created with advice from Sasha, the wedding executive at Waterfront, who I first asked.

I found a thick chunky font on publisher to make it stand out more than the usual fonts like georgia, sercoe print or courier would, so guests would see it a bit more. My frames came from the reject shop and were $3 each which was a definite save as I wanted the frames to be less than $5. The frame is 5 x 7 in height and is called Holly. It comes in black and brown but I decided to go with the black as it fits in better with our reception theme.

I worked out the right size that the sign needed to be with a few mock ups in the progress of making them. Finally got it and inserted it into the frame and I had ticked another DIY item off my list. Simple but effective and gets the message across. And once you've worked out your borders, it only takes an hour or so to put it together.

My next step in the cake accessories line of things is to find a cake cutting set. Have my eye on one already but the seller is away till the 15th July. Will have to wait till then to purchase it. Actually that's only five days away so not that long at all. The list of things that you need for a wedding seems extremely never ending, and I thought I'd nearly completed it but at least my lists are starting to dwindle though. Yay!

  3. These look lovely! And I think the idea of boxes rather than bags is brilliant. I always feel so sad when the take home bags get smooshed after leaving.

    Perfect font too!

    1. Thank you, I'm very proud of my cake boxes. Especially with the little logo that I created on vista print. But I can tell you, they took a little bit of work to put together, especially with making a template that would work
