The MC - did you hire one....

The master of ceremonies can create a magical wedding reception for you when you pick the right one. Most people pick someone who knows the couple really well, others pick someone who can run the reception without a hitch...

We originally were going to pick one of our friends but then decided to start looking for a professional one as we have a 5 and half hour beverage package attached to the reception and we want all of our friends to enjoy it. Whereas if we picked one of our friends to be the MC, they may not enjoy it as much due to having the responsibility to make sure the reception runs smoothly.

We met a couple of MC's at the bridal expos in Darling Harbour, the Dockside Open Day and Town Hall. Salvatore Coco was at the Expo in the Town Hall in Sydney and he was a headline act - dancing, singing and emceeing, not really what we wanted. I actually got a phone call from him yesterday asking whether we'd booked anyone yet as he was planning his second part of this year. So book them in fast as they get snatched up pretty quickly. And also Peter Mitchell, who is one of Dockside's preferred suppliers. We met Peter at one of the dockside open days and he didn't seem to be what we wanted either. So after much googling and internet square eyes, I came across Robert Galati.

I emailed him a few times and we arranged to meet at his restaurant. He manages a lovely thai restaurant in Concord and we had some fantastic dumplings while there. So yummy!! He was a very polite man who had a great sense of humour. Well dressed and very pleasant to deal with. I checked with FH and we pretty much booked him on the spot because we were so impressed with him. We are going to have another appointment closer to the wedding date to go over details, time plan, running sheet etc.

And another good indicator for us was that Jess from Angelic Events had Robert as her MC, this testimonial was on his website:

“As the owner of Angelic Events, one of Sydney’s leading wedding & events companies for the past 9 years, I have been lucky enough to have worked with Robert Galati for many of my events. I chose Robert to also the MC my own wedding at The Rocks in 2009.
Rob made my dream wedding a reality. His unrivalled professionalism and attention to detail made the night run successfully and smoothly. He really takes the time to understand the way an event should run, rather than being pushy he offers some incredible suggestions that he believes will suit every wedding and event. I cannot recommend Robert highly enough. He is an incredible wedding MC and an industry leader.”   Regards

So a deposit was paid and that's how we hired our MC...

  1. Your MC will be amazing! We had one of our good old friends be our MC, it was perfect because he really knew us from the beginning of our relationship.

  2. I think you've got it right... The role of an mc is really important and getting your own friends to do it certainly would have meant that they wouldn't enjoy themselves as much. Happy for you that you found someone you were comfortable with!
